Testing parents for genetic disorders is one of the hallmarks of responsible breeders
concerned about producing healthy purebred dogs. When considering acquiring any new
purebred pet you have the right to have verification provided signifying such tests
    have been preformed.
In the Akita Breed, the minimum testing done must include the following: hip dysplasia,
elbow dysplasia, eye disorders and thyroid function. While the most thorough parental
testing cannot guarantee future health of your pet, breeders committed to producing
healthy Akitas will certify such testing and provide prospective homes with evidence
    of such testing.
Minimize future health risks in your Akita’s future by selecting puppies produced
only from proveably health-tested parents and by requiring proof of such testing.
